Former UNC quarterback Drake Maye will cheer for his former program in the upcoming college basketball game between Hubert Davis’ North Carolina Tar Heels and the Duke Blue Devils on Saturday. He himself will be in action one day later in the biggest of stages as he gears up to lead the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LX against the Seattle Seahawks.
Ahead of two big games, Maye has shared his excitement for the basketball game, sending a message across.
“Tar Heel Nation, what’s going on? This is Drake Maye. I’m looking forward to the big game on Saturday. You know, I’d be there if I could. I got a little something else I’m focused on, but you know, I can’t wait to watch the game. I’ll be cheering. Heels on top. You know I always like the Heels. Go Heels, Go Pats. I’m Drake Maye, always a Tar Heel!”
While most will know why the Super Bowl is important, the upcoming basketball game in Chapel Hill is no less. Duke and UNC are fierce rivals of each other, especially in college basketball. So, it’s not surprising that the spirits are so high in Chapel Hill this weekend. They got their basketball team to support on Saturday and will look forward to see their very own Drake Maye become the first person out of UNC to start a Super Bowl game as quarterback the next day.
Patriots Get Huge Boost in Latest Drake Maye Injury Report
The Patriots received a major boost after Friday’s practice. Drake Maye, who was earlier a limited participant this week due to a shoulder injury, practiced fully before the Super Bowl matchup.
Last Friday, Maye missed practice because of injury and illness. The quarterback landed on his shoulder during the AFC Championship win against the Denver Broncos. It was a low-scoring 10-7 game, which saw Maye registering a season low 86 passing yards while completing only 10 of his 21 pass attempts.
“I feel good. I’ll be just fine. I threw a good bit,” Maye said after Monday’s workout. “I threw as much as I would in a normal practice, and it felt great.”
Another relieving update for the Patriots on the injury front was full participation of rookie safety Nick Emmanwori. They are well set entering Sunday’s high-profile game for the Lombardi Trophy.
