Running back Breece Hall will be a New York Jet for the 2026-2027 season.
With Hall set to become a free agent by the start of the new league year, which begins on March 11, Jets’ general manager Darren Mougey said Tuesday at the NFL Scouting Combine that the team will tag Hall if a long-term deal isn’t reached before the Mar. 3 tag deadline.
The plan is to reach a long-term deal before the team has to use the tag, but if one isn’t met by then, Hall will get tagged. The franchise tag salary for running backs this season is set at $14.1 million.
Hall has led the Jets’ backfield the last three seasons after being drafted as a rookie in 2022. He rushed for a career-high 1,065 yards last season, and has rushed for 3,398 yards and 18 rushing touchdowns in four seasons. Additionally, he has 1,642 receiving yards and nine receiving touchdowns.
With Breece Hall Set To Remain In NY, Who Are The Top Free Agent RBs?
Two of the top running backs set to hit free agency this offseason have been/will be retained. Breece Hall will stay with the New York Jets on a new deal or the franchise tag and the Dallas Cowboys and Javonte Williams agreed on a three-year, $24 million contract extension. Still, there’s a ton of running back talent expected to hit the open market.
Jacksonville Jaguars running back Travis Etienne could hit the open market with the Jaguars having a low cap number. The Seattle Seahawks won’t franchise tag Kenneth Walker and the belief is he finds a new home in free agency.
Atlanta Falcons backup running back Tyler Allegeier is expected to land elsewhere in free agency with more of a role as a lead back.
Other top free agent running backs include Rico Dowdle, Rachaad White, Isiah Pacheco, Kenneth Gainwell, and JK Dobbins.
