Months away from the start of the regular season, teams are back for mandatory minicamps, and so are the high expectations from players and fans alike. Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow was among those making bold statements comparing his team to a record-breaking roster.
During a press conference after the team’s minicamp on Wednesday, Burrow spoke about putting more pressure on himself as well as his teammates to push themselves in the quest to achieve the ultimate dream: a Super Bowl.
“Put pressure on guys. I love it,” he said. “I thrive in it. We’ll find out who else does. I know that we have the kind of people that want to be in that spot. I want everybody talking about the Bengals. I want everybody talking about what I’m saying in my press conferences. You go back and watch what I said before the 2019 season at LSU. I feel very similarly about this team.”
The 2019 LSU team finished the season with a flawless 15-0 record, led by Burrow. The team outscored opponents by 26.5 points per game, scoring a total of 726 points over the season. Burrow (Heisman Trophy), Ja’Marr Chase (Biletnikoff Award), Grant Delpit (Jim Thorpe Award), and Joe Brady (Broyles Award) swept all the laurels during the Heisman ceremony.
Shortly after the clip was posted on X (formerly Twitter), fans took to the comments to make their opinions known about Burrow’s bold comparison.

Bengals Re-Tool Roster Ahead Of 2026 NFL Season
The Cincinnati Bengals acquired Giants star Dexter Lawrence in a blockbuster deal, sending the No. 10 pick to New York. The trade bolstered a defense that gave up 28.9 PPG, ranking 30th out of 32 teams last season. Lawrence was also awarded a one-year, $28 million extension.
The team also added Jonathan Allen, Kyle Dugger, Bryan Cook, and Boye Mafe to further shore up the defense, in addition to 2026 NFL draft picks Cashius Howell and Tacaric Davis in the second and third rounds, respectively.
On the other end, Joe Burrow’s contract – which runs through 2029 – was also restructured, bringing the total available salary cap for this offseason to $16,472,050, per Over The Cap.
When asked about the current roster as compared to the ones in recent years, Bengals executive vice president Katie Blackburn said:
“Obviously, we feel good about the talent we have. We feel like we have a strong base to work around.”
The Bengals will begin their season at home against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on September 13.
