Cam Skattebo took over the college football playoffs and was viewed as a diamond in the rough in 2025. However, his 12-month run hit a bump at max speed in the form of an ankle injury that ended his season early. Most expect Skattebo to recover in time for the 2026 season. However, injuries can cause mental anguish as well as physical pain, and in a sport as brutal as the NFL, being fully recovered requires renewed mental fortitude.
Skattebo appeared to have that box checked in a statement made on “The Insiders” on Wednesday, via a report on Wednesday from NFL media.
“It ain’t gonna change who I am,” he said. “I had an injury, you know, it is what it is. I’ve still got plenty of football left, plenty of life left, I’m not going to let this little ankle thing bother me. I’m going to get back [to] running people over like you see on the videos. It’s going to be normal Cam Skattebo from here on out.”
The message could be taken a few different ways. On one hand, Giants fans will be excited to learn that he won’t fear pushing the extra yard. On the other hand, some may worry that being too aggressive could cause another injury. Either way, Skattebo appears ready to roll the dice this season.
Giants’ Offseason Actions Issue Vote Of Confidence In Cam Skattebo’s Running Back Room
After averaging 4.1 yards per carry in 2025, ending his season early due to injury, and with the addition of John Harbaugh, New York had reason to add at least one significant running back to dress up the room. Instead, the team appears to be all-in on the 2025 unit.
Skattebo is set to return for his second season, Tyrone Tracy Jr. is set to back him up in his third season, and Devin Singletary is set to gear up in his third season with the team.
Unless there is a significant change on the depth chart, New York is expected to trot out the same order that was in place before Skattebo’s injury as well, with the veteran Singletary filling in the third spot, Tracy working as the second string, and Skattebo leading the charge.
Will the Giants feel as confident about the running back room in November as the team’s actions indicate in June?
