Despite struggling in his first year as a college coach, North Carolina’s Bill Belichick is still considered one of the greatest football coaches of all time, and his six Super Bowl rings prove it. Despite this, he does not have the record for most wins, with that belonging to Don Shula at 347. For this to happen, Broncos head coach Sean Payton had reportedly petitioned the team’s owner to let “Big Bill” coach the Broncos until he broke the record.
This never materialized, and it was reportedly deemed too complicated. Fox Sports analyst and former Carolina Panthers lineman Geoff Schwartz agrees that this one might not have worked out.
“This sounds stupid,” he said.
In his proposal, Payton would have temporarily stepped back as head coach and become an assistant to Bill Belichick as he pursued that win record. The two were very close friends, with the Broncos head coach receiving bullet points from Belichick regarding what he did with the Patriots.
The coaching legend had a massive row with the Patriots’ ownership, eventually leading to his departure. He took a one-year break from coaching and eventually went to North Carolina, where he had struggled as a college coach in his first year.
Bill Belichick Among Big Names To Not Be Featured in EA Sports College Football 27
For now, Bill Belichick has gone all-in on college football and is seeking to redeem himself after a disappointing finish from last season. He will be returning to Chapel Hill as the Tar Heels’ head coach, though it seems he will not be appearing in the upcoming EA Sports College Football 27 video game, which will feature the likeness of college coaches.
He, along with Deion Sanders, opted not to be included in the game. This is not that surprising, as this also happened when he was still coaching the New England Patriots, as he had also opted not to be featured in EA Sports’ Madden NFL video games. The same can be said for Sanders, who also was not featured in previous College Football games by EA Sports.
