“Gambled On His Future And Lost”: NFL World Stunned After League’s Decision Spells Doom For Brendan Sorsby

Brendan Sorsby’s dreams of getting into the NFL were doomed on Tuesday as the league announced its decision not to hold a supplemental draft this year. According to a report from insider Adam Schefter, the league is set to send a letter to Sorsby and all 32 NFL teams informing them of its decision.

The league’s decision does not come as a surprise, however, since the supplemental draft has been given little attention through the years. The last one was held way back in 2019, and since its inception in 1977, the supplemental draft has only been held a handful of times.

However, the league’s decision left fans divided, and they flocked to X (formerly Twitter) to express their opinions on how the NFL has handled Sorsby’s future.

Another fan spoke on the league promoting gambling content while maintaining a strict no-tolerance policy against gambling.

As Brendan Sorsby’s supplemental draft dream comes to an end, the former Texas Tech quarterback will now have to wait for an entire year to enter the 2027 NFL draft instead.

Why Did Brendan Sorsby Enter The Supplemental Draft?

After Sorsby’s alleged betting scandal came to light, the Texas Tech transfer was revealed to be responsible for placing more than 2900 bets amounting to $30000. The NCAA immediately started an investigation into Sorsby’s gambling with potential punishments including a permanent ban from all college athletics.

While Sorsby’s future in college football was starting to look bleak, the former Cincinnati star was granted an injunction by Lubbock County Court, which also prohibited the NCAA from interfering in any of his on-field activities. Sorsby’s new court date for further proceedings was set for a couple of weeks after the 2027 national championship game.

However, after the Big 12 applied for an injunction, seeking permission to enforce its bylaws against Texas Tech – and not Sorsby – which meant the Red Raiders could be prevented from playing the Big 12 championship game if they fielded Sorsby. The quarterback ultimately chose to put an end to his college career and declare for the supplemental draft.
