“Overpaid “: NFL World Reacts as Kyle Pitts Lands Historic $54 Million Falcons Extension

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, tight end Kyle Pitts and the Atlanta Falcons agreed to a three-year contract worth $54 million that includes $36 million fully guaranteed. The deal is reportedly the largest three-year contract for a tight end in NFL history.

The extension comes after months of uncertainty surrounding Pitts’ long-term future in Atlanta. After signing the franchise tag earlier this offseason, both sides had until July 15 to negotiate a new deal, and they ultimately reached an agreement before that deadline, ending speculation about whether Pitts could become a free agent.

“Overpaid. He’s extremely mid for a 4th overall pick” one user reacted to the news.

Some fans felt Pitts had earned the contract after years of hearing criticism about how Atlanta utilized him.

“They finally paid the man! After years of the ‘he’s being wasted’ narrative, Kyle Pitts gets his bag.” one wrote.

“Had a better season last year but if it doesn’t work out this will be an awful contract.” another wrote.

Several critics also questioned Atlanta’s overall roster-building strategy.

“Falcons stay paying their offensive players to still never be relevant.”

Another fan was surprised that Pitts is one of the league’s highest-paid tight ends.

“How is he the 3rd highest paid TE what is Atlanta doing.”

Falcons Double Down on Kyle Pitts

Atlanta selected Pitts with the No. 4 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. He became the second rookie tight end in NFL history to surpass 1,000 receiving yards in the same year.

Although the Falcons didn’t qualify for the playoffs last season, Pitts’ performance was commendable. In the 2025 season, he recorded a career-high 88 receptions for 928 yards and five touchdowns.

With Tua Tagovailoa joining the team on March 9, and Michael Penix Jr. set to be ready for when the season starts, fans can expect the team to make a stronger push this season. If everything goes right, a playoff spot is possible.

By locking up Pitts, Atlanta is betting huge on the young tight end. Whether this is viewed as a smart investment or a risky gamble, only time will tell.
