The Pittsburgh Steelers, after ending their 2025 NFL regular season with an overall record of 10-7, will play their wildcard playoff round at home against the Houston Texans on January 12.
Part of the Pennsylvania-based franchise’s success has been in the form of veteran Aaron Rodgers, who’s delivered consistent performances throughout this campaign.
However, a new update suggests that the old-timer quarterback could now feature for another NFL season despite the 2025 campaign being touted to be his last. While his return next season is still not confirmed yet, NFL insider Ian Rapoport has reported that the 42-year-old Rodgers is open to the idea of returning for the next season.
This news has naturally prompted a lot of fans on X to comment on Rodgers’ future with the Steelers.
“He’s cooked old man might have one more good one in him tho”, wrote a fan.
“The league is always more interesting when Rodgers is on the field”, stated a fan.
“Rodgers will play until teams stop paying him to play”, said a fan.
“Great to see Rodgers dialed in, that’s a strong signal. Expecting elite production if he’s feeling it”, remarked a fan.
“Rodgers played well enough to win the North, but his body is definitely showing signs of age. I’m worried that banking on a 43-year-old for 2026 might be a repeat of the 2021 mistake we made with Big Ben”, commented a fan.
“I dont know what this buys the Steelers. Certainly nothing in the long term. They can draft a QB and sit him for a year and he can learn from Rogers. After this one and done he’ll may want to change him mind anyway….”, wrote another skeptical fan.
“aaron rodgers still cooking at 42? respect. just don’t make us wait till august to decide again lol”, commented another fan.
Rodgers, throughout the course of the 2025 season, has completed a total of 327 of 498 passes for 3,322 yards whilst also scoring 24 touchdowns and 7 interceptions.
Rodgers’ Week 18 Comments Hint At A Possible Return
Rodgers’ openness towards returning for one more season could be seen when asked about the same. Ahead of the Steelers’ week 18 game, Rodgers stated how he has yet to decide on his future move with the Steelers ahead of the next season but did not outright dismiss the possibility of a return.
“You know, obviously I’ll talk to my wife, and then hopefully that’s a decision down the line, but I’m not really going to talk about right now,” Rodgers stated.
If Rodgers decides against returning next season, the Steelers will have to look towards the likes of Mason Rudolph or rookie Will Howard to fill in the quarterback void.
