Former New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady made headlines earlier this week when he said he wasn’t pulling for his ex-team in this year’s Super Bowl. The Patriots will face the Seattle Seahawks in the big game on Sunday at Levi’s Stadium in San Francisco.
Although Brady boldly said that he isn’t rooting for any team in this year’s Super Bowl, his former New England teammate, Malcolm Butler, has voiced his support for the Patriots.
“I don’t own pets. I’m New England ‘til the day I die,” Butler said via the Patriots when asked if he had a dog in this year’s Super Bowl during an interview on Saturday. “Don’t let that go over your head now.”
Butler was signed by the Patriots as an undrafted free agent in 2014. The cornerback played with them for four seasons, winning two Super Bowls.
Butler then played three seasons with the Tennessee Titans from 2018 to 2020.
Butler was on the Arizona Cardinals’ offseason squad in 2021, but retired before the season began. He came out of retirement to sign with the Patriots in March 2022, but never played for them in his second stint with the team.
Butler announced his retirement on March 9, 2024.
Tom Brady Led the Patriots to Six Super Bowl Wins During his 20-year Sojourn With the Franchise
Many fans were left surprised when Tom Brady said he wasn’t fully backing the Patriots in this year’s Super Bowl. More so, since he spent 20 years with New England, winning six Super Bowls.
In August, the Patriots honored Brady with a 17-foot bronze statue outside Gillette Stadium.
Brady also won a Super Bowl with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2021. He retired from the NFL in February 2023.
Brady is currently working as an analyst for Fox.
