Did Maxx Crosby Actually Fail His Medical? Key Wording May Suggest Bigger Issue With Baltimore Trade

Maxx Crosby was a Las Vegas Raider, then a Raven, and then again a Raider after his trade to Baltimore fell through. The Raiders defensive end is recovering from a serious meniscus repair surgery which caused the Ravens to call off a blockbuster trade after he failed his physical tests.

In the announcement that the Raiders made of the trade falling through, nowhere did they mention about Crosby failing his physicals. Popular media outlet ProFootball Talk believes there could be something bigger than a failed physical behind this botched trade. On X, the account tweeted:

“Every trade is contingent on a player passing a physical. But the Raiders didn’t say Crosby failed his Ravens physical. The Raiders said the Ravens “backed out” of the trade. This feels bigger than a failed physical.”

Crosby’s surgery was performed by renowned orthopaedic surgeon Dr. Neal ElAttrache in Los Angeles. As per reports, it was a meniscus repair while some sources note a meniscus trim or clean-up, but the consensus points to addressing a tear that was described as “very bad” or “severely shredded in places alongside cartilage issues.

Crosby posted about the procedure being successful, expressing optimism for a full recovery and calling it “cleaning up time.”

Which Teams Could Land Maxx Crosby?

Though the blockbuster trade for Maxx Crosby to the Ravens fell through, that doesn’t mean there aren’t any other avenues open for him. Following this, Crosby’s relationship with the Raiders front office can definitely be deemed to have deteriorated since he was put on the trading block despite his initial desire to stay.

A healthy Crosby could be a problem for the opponents but the Raiders are now looking to rebuild. So, which teams could help find the best of this situation for themselves?

The Dallas Cowboys were vying for Crosby before the Ravens outbid them by offering two 2026 and 2027 first-round picks. The Cowboys, in turn, offered a first-round and a second-round pick. Since Micah Parsons’ departure to the Green Bay Packers, the Cowboys could help use Crosby as a defensive cornerstone if they can fit him in their remaining $20 million cap space.

The next in line shopping around for the edge rusher were the Philadelphia Eagles. Since Jaelan Phillips’ departure in free agency, the Eagles’ edge depth has been rather thin. The Eagles could perhaps restructure an aggressive contract fitting Crosby’s $30.7 million cap in 2026.
