Starting for the first time in two years, Denver Broncos quarterback Jarrett Stidham took little time to get the first points on the board in the AFC Championship game against the New England Patriots on Sunday at Mile High. The Broncos scored the first touchdown by completing a successful touchdown drive in the early part of the first quarter.
With 11:49 remaining, in the 3rd & 10 situation, Stidham snapped the ball and threw deep to receiver Marvin Mims Jr. for 52-yards, bringing the Broncos within a few yards of the redzone. Mims Jr. and Stidham successfully completed a pass over Patriots cornerback Christian Gonzalez.
Stidham completed the formalities, getting the ball to the endzone for a 6-yard touchdown pass to the team’s leading receiver, Courtland Sutton.
Fans made jokes about the Patriots’ cornerback for potentially undermining Stidham, who is only starting this game because Bo Nix is done for the season.
“CHRISTIAN GONZALEZ JUST GOT EMBARRASSED,” one fan wrote and shared the video of the play. “He didnt know Stidham can throw that far 😭😭”
“Christian Gonzalez getting cooked out here,” another fan wrote.
“Christian Gonzalez IS NOT Patrick Surtain,” one fan compared the two quarterbacks.
“Christian Gonzalez is a**. The patriots should trade him to the cowboys 👀” another added.
“Early miscues costly. Both sides of the ball,” one fan broke down the first touchdown. “Defensively, Christian Gonzalez lost Marvin Mims in coverage. Gave up a 52-yarder that set up a TD. Offensively, on 3rd down, Patriots had to rush to get the snap off. Nik Bonitto timed it, beat Will Campbell, forced a short throw.”
“No fear with Stidham he went right at Christian Gonzalez on 3rd down 👀” one fan lauded the Broncos quarterback.
Jarrett Stidham Looking To Pull Off Heroics In Bo Nix’s Absence
Bo Nix hurt his knee late in the 33-30 overtime win against the Buffalo Bills. Head coach Sean Payton informed fans that he is done for the season and recently underwent ankle surgery in Alabama.
Jarrett Stidham, who last started a game in 2023, received the nod to start the game. So far, it seems, he is doing exceedingly well, completing 3 of 6 passes for 60 yards and one touchdown.
He appears to be in good sync with the rest of the offense who clicked almost immediately. If the chemistry works for the rest of the game, the Patriots will be in trouble.
