Browns GM Andrew Berry Opens Up on Denzel Ward’s Situation After Myles Garrett Trade

The Cleveland Browns are never short of making the headlines, and they certainly turned some heads after officially completing the trade of one of the most recognizable names in the NFL today, with Myles Garrett moving out of Cleveland.

Instead, the Browns traded up for Jared Verse and a bunch of draft picks, and the jury is still out on whether the Los Angeles Rams got the better end of the bargain or whether it was shrewd business on the part of Cleveland.

Addressing the media following the decision, Browns General Manager Andrew Berry was asked a handful of questions about the decision, but also about another Browns star who has been linked with a move away from the Ohio franchise.

When asked about Denzel Ward’s future, Berry gave a neutral response, with suggestions that he might well be staying at Cleveland this season.

“It’s most appropriate for Denzel (Ward) to speak for himself,” he said.

“Denzel’s been great throughout the offseason, his communication has been good and he’s a big part of the team. We like him a lot and he’s still playing at a really high level and that doesn’t change.”

Denzel Ward’s Current Situation at Cleveland

The world is interested in Denzel Ward’s future partly due to the fact that his contract was adjusted in the offseason, but not completely, leaving him available to be traded from a salary cap point of view.

Ward would cost over $30 million against the salary cap, but if he’s traded, the Browns can save over $17 million, leaving this as a potentially lucrative deal should it be considered, but it seems as if GM Andrew Berry is happy with what he has at the moment.
