Baker Mayfield is headed into his ninth season in the NFL. The 2017 Heisman Trophy winner had a lot of momentum coming into the NFL. He won two Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year awards and was the NCAA passer rating leader and NCAA completion percentage leader in consecutive years.
Mayfield became the No. 1 overall pick at the 2018 NFL Draft, selected by the Cleveland Browns. But his hot streak didn’t continue once he entered the big league. Like many other athletes, Mayfield was traded several times.
Mayfield’s wife, Emily, recently did an ‘Ask Me Anything’ session on her Instagram stories where her followers asked a variety of questions. One fan asked her if she likes living in Tampa.
Emily replied to the fan, stating that she is all in for the “Tampa vibes” and that her family enjoys being there.
“Gimme allllll the Tampa vibes! We love it!” she wrote. “Even if football takes us elsewhere, I think Tampa is home for the foreseeable future.”

The move to Tampa wasn’t Mayfield’s first trade. In 2022, four years into his career, he was traded to the Carolina Panthers. Later that year, he was sent to the Los Angeles Rams. And in March 2023, he joined the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where he has been their starting quarterback for three seasons.
When these trades happen, athletes and their families have to uproot their lives and move to a new place. Mayfield’s family has done that four times so far. While the change is never easy, they sometimes experience what’s called a blessing in disguise.
Emily and her husband seem to have settled in with the Tampa community, and they are also raising their kids in Tampa.
Baker Mayfield will Likely Sign a Big Contract
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed Mayfield to a one-year, $4 million contract in 2023 when he first joined the team. Ahead of the 2024 season, Mayfield signed a three-year contract extension with the Buccaneers.
That contract is set to expire next year, and Mayfield will become a free agent. However, Sports Illustrated writer Conor Orr believes that the Buccaneers will lock him down and offer him a big contract.
“Buccaneers general manager Jason Licht told reporters after the draft that Mayfield, who turned 31 in April, is always at the forefront of their minds,” he wrote. “In a world of haves and have-nots at the quarterback position, Mayfield is far more than a bridge quarterback to another era.”
If the Buccaneers decide to keep Mayfield, who turned 31 in April, it wouldn’t be surprising because he has taken them to the postseason in two of his three years in Tampa Bay.
