Breece Hall Shares Cryptic Message As Jets Turn Down Trade Speculation In Favor Of Franchise Tag

The New York Jets have placed a franchise tag on running back Breece Hall, turning down trade speculation for once. The non-exclusive franchise tag will pay Hall about $14.293 million for 2026, guaranteeing his stay with the Jets.

The franchise tag gives the Jets an advantage. In case any other team tries to trade for the running back, the said team will have to give up two first-round picks.

In the wake of this move from the Jets, Hall shared a cryptic post on X:

“Always been the type to bet on myself. Been working…see yall soon, Love🤞🏾”

Hall seems to be suggesting that he has been working hard behind the scenes.

The trade rumors first started before the 2025 season NFL trade deadline, when the Jets were struggling, and other teams could use an elite back like him, even if it means giving up a lot in exchange. However, despite strong interest, the trade never materialized.

Why Jets Used Franchise Tag on Breece Hall Rather Than Trading

It’s not like the Jets will all of a sudden become a Super Bowl contender next season, which begs the question of why they would bet on Breece Hall with a franchise tag rather than use him as a trade option and get good returns.

The Jets’ leadership views Hall as a core offensive piece and is trying to work toward a long-term extension. They are using the franchise tag as a placeholder until they can finally negotiate a contract.

General manager Darren Mougey already ruled out that they won’t be actively looking to trade Hall.

“Ideally, we’d like to find a way to get a deal done and keep Breece around,” Mougey said at the 2026 NFL Scouting Combine. “I’ve said that for the last year since I got here. Breece is a good player, and we want to find a way to keep him around.”

But in order for that to happen, the Jets and Hall’s representatives need to strike a multi-year contract extension before July 15 so that he doesn’t spend the entire season under a tag.
