Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift got married on July 3 at Madison Square Garden. The ceremony was attended by their family members, close friends, teammates, peers, and several notable members from sports media.
NBA legend Charles Barkley also received an invite, which most likely came with an NDA. Despite the buzz around what’s being called the ‘wedding of the year’, Sir Charles declined the wedding invitation.
During a conversation with Unfiltered with Ricky Bo and Bill Colarulo on Philadelphia’s 97.5 The Fanatic, Barkley talked about the wedding invite and detailed why he decided to skip the event.
“I did get an invite, and I politely declined,” he said. “I love Travis and Jason, and I have only met Taylor once…But I said that is just too much. I just want to hangout and play golf, and I don’t want to dress up. But I appreciate the invitation it was pretty special.”
Fans of Swift and Kelce didn’t like the fact that Chuck declined the invite; others, however, understood what he was trying to say.
“It was SO not worth going to and no big deal that you talked about it, though. Ok,” a fan wrote.
“Charles Barkley calling this a ‘a polite decline’ is like saying John MacEnroe calling his temper tantrums polite conversation,” a fan wrote.
“Imagine having a wedding and just inviting celebrities even though you barely know them,” a fan wrote.
“He’s the one of the few normal famous people 😆 Who invites somebody they met once to their wedding?” a fan wrote.
“Me and Barkley are the same age, and at this stage of life, I hear him loud and clear….I get it, send a nice gift and celebrate their beautiful union in your own way,” a fan wrote.
“You won’t go to strangers’ wedding. That’s normal people do,” a fan wrote.
Some fans wondered why Barkley was even invited to the wedding, considering he had only met Swift once. However, he has a longstanding relationship with Travis Kelce and his brother Jason.
Skipping Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s Wedding Wasn’t an Exception for Charles Barkley
Declining the wedding invite might seem like a big deal for the fans of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce, but not for Charles Barkley. During his conversation, Chuck stated that he doesn’t like to attend weddings.
“I don’t go to weddings or funerals,” he said.
Even though people like Jim Nantz, Joe Buck, Pat McAfee, Stephen A. Smith, Tony Romo, and others were in attendance, the 63-year-old was likely spending time with his grandkids.
In the weeks leading up to the big event, Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s wedding was one of the most discussed topics in the media. There was a lot of excitement among close friends and fans of Swift and Kelce. However, Sir Charles, at his age, isn’t interested in that.
