Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield recently called out his former coach during their tumultuous time together at their previous NFL franchise. On Tuesday, Jan. 20, Mayfield took to his X/Twitter account to repost a report that alleges that his former tactician, Kevin Stefanski, considered him a failure during their tenure with the Cleveland Browns from 2019 to 2021.
Stefanski was recently acquired by the Atlanta Falcons to be their next main shot-caller. He replaced Raheem Morris after Atlanta finished their 2025 campaign with an 8-9 overall record and missed out on the playoffs. Stefanski served the Browns for six years before being fired earlier this month, where his first couple of seasons saw him coach Mayfield.
NFL fans online reminded Mayfield that it was he who requested a trade from the Browns franchise.
“You requested a trade dude,” one fan pointed out.
“Lol seems pretty far off what actually happened, Baker,” another fan wrote with a screengrab of Mayfield requesting a trade.
“If you didn’t fail in Cleveland, then what do you call what you did this season?” another user questioned.
“You had no chance in Cleveland 🤷🏻♂️ #DawgPound is a cursed franchise. It’s like the whole damn city was built on an Indian burial ground 👀,” a fan claimed with a couple of emojis.
Here are a few more reactions:
“I’m sure Kevin is shaking in his shoes. He’s sheer class, man,” one fan said.
“Reading it like Stefanski said this LMAO. You got swept by Raheem GD Morris, pipe down,” another fan shared.
“We know Kevin Stefanski left you out to dry, it all makes sense now 😭,” a user posted with a crying emoji.
For now, Mayfield’s focus remains on his new team, coach Todd Bowles’ Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The veteran will enter his fourth season with them in the 2026 campaign. Mayfield joined the Buccaneers from the Los Angeles Rams in 2022. The former Oklahoma Sooner played his first four years in the league with Stefanski’s Browns.
D. Orlando Ledbetter Claims That Baker Mayfield Was A Failure Under Kevin Stefanski
Perhaps the reasoning as to why Baker Mayfield decided to call out his former coach, Kevin Stefanski, is that he was reposting a report on X/Twitter.
The report, written by NFL writer D. Orlando Ledbetter, claims that Mayfield, along with fellow quarterback Deshaun Watson, did not do well for the Cleveland Browns under Kevin Stefanski.
