The Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ season has come to an end, despite Baker Mayfield’s impressive run leading them. He was the 10th-best in yardage this regular season, fifth in total touchdowns, and 12th in QBR.
Despite this, the team’s fate was left in the hands of rival teams on Sunday, as they needed the New Orleans Saints to beat the Atlanta Falcons to remain in contention for the NFL Playoffs. During Sunday’s game, Mayfield’s wife, Emily, uploaded a video, teasing the NFL quarterback about his team’s future being in another team’s hands.
She first posted an Instagram story that simply read:
“Watching Baker watch football as a ‘fan’ is hilarious…haven’t seen him this stressed in a minute.”

This continued with her posting pictures and videos of Mayfield looking extremely worried, as he watched the game between the Falcons and Saints. He had reason to worry, as Atlanta defeated New Orleans 19-17, thus eliminating Tampa Bay from postseason contention.
Baker Mayfield Likes to Take Hits During Games
Baker Mayfield did everything he could on Saturday afternoon, as he and the Buccaneers defeated the Carolina Panthers 16-14. Some analysts and fans noted during the game that Mayfield seems to have a knack for scrambling out of the pocket and taking big hits. Something that has been on display all season long.

Being asked in the game’s aftermath about it, Todd Bowles had this to say about his quarterback’s approach to contact:
“Baker initiated a lot of those hits, so he wanted the contact, and he wanted the action. It was his way of getting guys going and getting everything together. That’s how he plays and we [have] to let him play. If it was probably the middle of the season, I don’t know if he takes those hits like that.”
When asked about it after the game, Mayfield seemed to admit that he relishes getting that kind of contact when he’s working hard to get his team a first down.
