Aaron Rodgers’ future in the NFL has been the talk of the town this offseason. The veteran quarterback is still one of the best free agents available after spending the 2025 season with the Pittsburgh Steelers on a one-year contract.
While Rodgers, 42, has yet to announce whether he will play in the 2026 season, former Steelers coach Mike Tomlin believes that the QB will return to Pittsburgh for another season.
“I’ll say it’s Aaron Rodgers,” Tomlin said on NBC’s “Football Night In America” on Sunday when asked who will be the Steelers’ QB1 next season. “I just think Aaron. Being around him for twelve months, he got a love affair with the game of football. Not only the game, but the process. The informal moments, the development of younger guys, the interaction with teammates.
“I think he has an addiction to that and there’s only one way to feed it. Certainly, he is still capable and in really good shape. So, I think at the end of the day, he’ll play football.”
Rodgers played the 2025 season at Pittsburgh under Tomlin. The QB led the team to the AFC North title, but Pittsburgh lost 30-6 to the Houston Texans in the wild-card round.
Aaron Rodgers Could Reunite With Mike McCarthy at Steelers for 2026 Season
The Steelers announced Mike McCarthy as their new coach in February, just a few weeks after Mike Tomlin announced that he was stepping down from the role. This could be a factor that could help Rodgers decide his next move.
Rodgers played under McCarthy when they were at the Green Bay Packers from 2006 to 2018. They won the Super Bowl together at Green Bay in 2011.
Rodgers could potentially reunite with McCarthy for a shot at another Super Bowl run in the 2026 season.
