The Green Bay Packers, who are valued at $6.65 billion, per Forbes, seem interested in making a move for LeBron James. At least that’s what their X account is flaunting, after the NBA legend has become an unrestricted free agent.
On Tuesday, the NFL franchise published a headshot of LeBron James on a Packers jersey, with the following caption:
“Heard he’s a free agent,” said the X post
Logically, the post is no more than a joke. An attempt to garner engagement from the breaking news that James has decided not to continue with the Los Angeles Lakers after an eight-year stint with the NBA franchise.
During his eight years in Los Angeles, the already two-time NBA champion won two further championships in 2018 and 2020. He was the NBA Finals MVP on both occasions, and he also earned nine straight NBA All-Star Game selections during this period.
Statement by the Los Angeles Lakers on LeBron James’s departure
The Los Angeles Lakers posted a statement on X this Tuesday afternoon, bidding farewell to LeBron James. The incredibly complementary press release read as follows:
“LeBron James is one of the greatest athletes in history. We will always be thankful for his eight years with the Lakers – including the title he led us to in 2020 under the toughest imaginable circumstances and the countless records he broke in purple and gold,” the statement read. “We wish him all the best in the future, both on the court and off. He will always be a cherished part of the Lakers family.”
LeBron James’s departure from the team had been rumored for a while this offseason, with some even believing that the player would want to end his career this year. According to the latest reports, this seems unlikely, and many expect him to return to his original NBA franchise, the Cleveland Cavaliers, for a final season.
However, they’re not the only team that would be interested in getting his services. Several teams, headlined by the Golden State Warriors, do have the cap space necessary to sign LeBron James.
Despite a couple of championships and Finals MVPs, most experts agree that his stint with the Lakers was of mixed results.
Since 6 pm ET this Tuesday, he’s allowed to negotiate with other teams, and he would be able to sign up with a new franchise starting Monday.
