Cleveland Browns beat reporter Mary Kay Cabot recently sat down with Awful Announcing to speak about the upcoming season for the NFC franchise. Among the topics the journalist spoke about was the blockbuster trade between the Browns and the Los Angeles Rams, which included Cleveland’s best player at the time, Myles Garrett.
In the interview published this Tuesday, Cabot pointed to a possible reason that has been overlooked as to what motivated the trade. Perhaps Myles Garrett wanted to move closer to his girlfriend, Winter Olympian Chloe Kim, said Cabot:
“I think it’s a win-win. When I see Myles Garrett out there in L.A., he’s with his girlfriend, Chloe Kim, who lives in California. He’s getting more into commercials and becoming more of a celebrity. And so he’ll be able to do all of that out there. He will also have a chance to win that elusive Super Bowl he’s always wanted. And I think it’s great for the Browns because they have an opportunity to get a really good player back in Jared Verse….
“And then, of course, the Browns also got a first-round pick next year, a second-round pick the year after, and a third-round pick the year after that. So, to be able to maximize that deal and get that much for Myles Garrett, I think it was great.”
Garrett had spent the entirety of his career since debuting in 2017 with the Cleveland Browns. Some analysts have speculated he agreed or perhaps even requested the trade, looking to move away from his ever-rebuilding franchise.
Adding one of the top defensive players in the league immediatly turns the Los Angeles Rams into top-tier candidates to win the Super Bowl next season. In exchange, Cleveland received a two-time All-Pro and the 2024 NFL Defensive Player of the Year, while also getting significant value in future draft picks.
Who will start for the Cleveland Browns as quarterback in 2026?
Mary Kay Cabot also spoke about the quarterback situation going on with the Browns. When asked who she thought would start, if Deshaun Watson and Shedeur Sanders, she admitted that in the spring, she believed Watson was Cleveland’s man.
However, she admitted that over the summer, Shedeur Sanders has significantly closed the gap with the veteran quarterback. She now believes it’s basically a coin toss and that only Todd Monken truly knows who has the upper hand in the quarterback battle.
