The Boston Celtics’ winning run ended in the last game against the Minnesota Timberwolves, and Tracy McGrady has blamed Jayson Tatum. The forward came back to the team after a long hiatus due to a right Achilles tendon injury, and the team has just lost two of eight games since he returned to the roster. However, McGrady did not believe the Celtics were better now.
Tatum is averaging 19.1 points, 8.9 rebounds, and 3.3 assists. In the loss to the Wolves, he scored a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds, shooting 37.5% from the field and 28.6% from deep. McGrady highlighted that issue after the game and said:
“I don’t want to say it seems out of whack, but their shooting has gone down since he’s been here. What’re we doing here? Are we running the same stuff that we ran before? Are we on the same page?”
The Wolves were without Anthony Edwards and Mike Conley, but Bones Hyland led the team with 23 points. Even Julius Randle did not have the best of days, scoring nine points and nine rebounds in 29 minutes. That does highlight some crucial issues for the Celtics, who had both Jaylen Brown and Tatum.
“I’m not Superman,” Jayson Tatum on his offensive woes since return
The Celtics are second in the Eastern Conference, as Jaylen Brown took up the responsibility perfectly in the absence of Jayson Tatum. The Celtics forward talked to the media after the loss to the Wolves and talked about his offensive struggles. He said:
“It’s tough in the moment, right? You try not to think about it. You just want to be Jayson Tatum and feel like yourself again. I’m not Superman, so it’s obviously gonna take some time. I think the next day, I can give myself a little more grace over certain things, but in the moment, it’s frustrating.”
Jayson Tatum returned after a 10-month break and still doesn’t seem comfortable on the court. Fans expect Tatum to get back to his groove soon before the postseason sets in and get some wins for the team in crucial situations of the playoffs.
