Selena Gomez was in hot water after she left a cryptic comment on Taylor Swift and her friends celebrating the New York Knicks’ Game 4 win on Wednesday. The popular San Antonio Spurs fan posted several stories on Instagram after her favorite team suffered a heartbreaking 107-106 loss in a close game. However, her comment on MTV’s social media post went viral. And now, she has issued a clarification.
Given that she was out of the country, the popular pop artist made sure to watch the game digitally. After the Spurs lost, Swift and Co.’s pictures went viral, as they were part of a star-studded fan lineup at Madison Square Garden. Gomez commented “lol” on Swift’s pictures, which opened a can of speculations.
In her latest Instagram story, Gomez cleared the air over her comment. Along with an image of her place, she wrote:
“woke up and was sent so many texts. I would never insult my friends nor was it an insult. The comment was a reaction to the first slide on the page. Second I bet my friends on the game. The friends in the text chain I posted. I lost but was poking at my opponents, my friends. Believe it or not I do have other friends in my life. But quickly forget that most assume otherwise. also .. It’s a basketball game.”
Even though the recent development created a tense situation between Swift and Gomez, due to their opposing team affiliations, the two pop stars have maintained a friendly bond. Gomez was seen in Swift’s star-studded music video for Bad Blood, and the two have rated each other’s music highly in the past.
The Knicks now lead the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA Finals 3-1 in what is turning out to be a dream NBA Finals run for the team. MSG was also a meeting ground for several celebrities meeting each other after a long time. Gomez, even though far from the action at MSG, has had a real relationship with Swift.
