“The Next Kobe”: NBA Fans Hyped After Darryn Peterson’s Explosive 28-Pt Summer League Debut

Darryn Peterson is one of many intriguing rookies to look forward to in this year’s Summer League. On Saturday, the incoming Utah Jazz guard made the most of his Summer League debut, dropping 28 points on 11-for-21 shooting from the field.

After Peterson led the Jazz to a 103-102 overtime win over the Atlanta Hawks, fans expressed their awe, echoing the lofty comparisons circulating prior to the NBA draft.

Prior to the NBA draft, ESPN’s Kendrick Perkins made the bold comparison that the “low end” of Peterson’s potential is Bradley Beal while his ceiling is Kobe Bryant. Clearly, some fans agree with Perkins’ assessment.

It’s worth noting, of course, that Peterson opted not to work out for the Jazz heading into the NBA draft. According to reports, Peterson and his camp were confident that the Kansas standout would be taken first overall by the Washington Wizards.

AJ Dybantsa ended up going No. 1, while Peterson “fell” to the Jazz at No. 2. Despite these circumstances, Peterson has left a strong impression in his first Summer League outing with the team.

“Sky’s the Limit for This Kid”: Joe Johnson Gives Props to Darryn Peterson After Summer League Debut

Amid a wave of fans echoing their support online, Joe Johnson gave Darryn Peterson props after his Summer League debut on Saturday.

On the latest episode of “Nightcap,” the seven-time All-Star told Shannon Sharpe and Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson that he liked what he saw from Peterson.

“When I watched Darryn Peterson today, how he ran the pick-and-roll, how patient he was, he wasn’t sped up. When he did speed up, he got to whatever he wanted to…The sky’s the limit for this kid.”

Having made a great first impression, Peterson will now have to follow up on this strong performance in his next Summer League games.
