Kevin Durant has long been rumored to make a move to the New York Knicks, but nothing between the superstar and the franchise ever materialized. Now, the Knicks have their leader in Jalen Brunson, as the franchise is now finals-bound. A fan on social media compared the shifty guard to the 2-time NBA champion and claimed that the team doesn’t want the latter. However, Durant had a fitting response.
The user posted a screenshot of an image with Brunson and wrote on the image:
“F**k KD we got Brunson {laughing emoji}”
Durant responded to the fans’ conversations in the comments and wrote:
“Finally yall can release yourselves from my Yerna means”

Brunson and the Knicks swept the Cleveland Cavaliers in the conference finals dominantly, as the guard was awarded the Eastern Conference Finals MVP. He scored 25.5 points and 7.8 assists in the series and led the team to an easy victory. Karl-Anthony Towns was back in form in the last game with 19 points and 14 rebounds.
On the other hand, the OKC Thunder and the San Antonio Spurs are engaged in a high-profile battle in the Western Conference Finals. While the Knicks wait for their opponents for the NBA Finals, the team has enough time to rest and come back stronger one last time.
Kevin Durant’s former teammate Matt Barnes credits Brunson for his mentality
Former NBA player and Kevin Durant’s Warriors teammate Matt Barnes highlighted Jalen Brunson’s contributions to the Knicks’ winning run this postseason. Barnes remembered the major pay cut Brunson took in 2024, when he was eligible for a 5-year, $269 million max extension. However, the guard took a significant cut of $113 million to allow the franchise to keep the core.
Barnes hailed that sacrifice and added:
“You can’t say enough good things about Jalen Brunson and what he’s been able to do to prove all the non-believers wrong, to be clutch, and they’re here. And I know Knicks fans are going crazy. I didn’t get a chance to see the postgame because I was on the airplane last night, but I’m sure they were trying to tear down the Statue of Liberty.”
The Knicks’ fans really made a big deal after the team won the conference for the first time since 1999. They have waited more than 50 years for a championship, and thus, the excitement is natural. Moreover, they are known to support their team wholeheartedly.
