Usually, the most impactful player of the season is selected for the cover of the game, but this year’s selection has irked fans. After Jalen Brunson and the New York Knicks defeated Wemby and his San Antonio Spurs in five games in the NBA Finals, fans believed the decision was unfair.
The Knicks ended their 53-year-long wait for a title last season after a difficult matchup with the Spurs. Though many felt the competition would be fierce, Brunson and the Knicks completely dominated the series. And that’s why fans believed that the guard should have been on the cover of the new edition of the game.
One fan took a dig at the alien on Shams Charania’s report on X and wrote:
“Only thing he beat out Brunson for”
Though the final series did not go as he would have planned, Victor Wembanyama had a successful campaign last season, reaching the finals with the youngest squad in the postseason.
Wemby carried the team in crucial moments and developed a close bond with the young core, including Stephon Castle, Dylan Harper and others.
