The Miami Heat and Boston Celtics are reportedly rivaling each other for another offseason signing after Giannis Antetokounmpo. The Heat won those sweepstakes but could face a tall task when they lock horns with Boston for three-time NBA All-Star Bradley Beal.
According to NBA insider Jake Fischer’s reporting on Bleacher Report’s stream, the Heat have some interest in Beal, while the Celtics cannot be ruled out, citing his ties with superstar Jayson Tatum.
“I was told today that Beal’s decision is not exactly being held up by LeBron, but is being impacted by it,” he said. “I do think there’s some Miami interest there, and I would not rule out Boston for Beal because of the connection with Jayson Tatum.”
Fischer added that he envisions Beal signing with a playoff contender.
“Beal is definitely going to be signed by a team with playoff aspirations, that is my understanding there.”
Beal and the Heat have been linked for several offseasons since 2021. Miami was among the teams chasing his services in 2023 when he joined Phoenix via trade. It again lost out on Beal in 2025 when he joined the LA Clippers after being bought out by the Suns.
The Heat could have a better chance this time as Giannis Antetokounmpo’s addition has made them one of the most lucrative landing spots in free agency. They are among the frontrunners for LeBron James, too.
On the other hand, the Celtics have also been linked to Beal before. He’s been friends with Tatum since their childhood in St. Louis. Beal was an elder brother figure and mentor to Tatum.
Bradley Beal would be an ideal fit for the Heat and Celtics
Bradley Beal is past his prime, and injuries have limited his production. However, in a limited role, Beal would be a solid fit for the Heat and Celtics. Miami gutted most of its roster to acquire Giannis Antetokounmpo. Tyler Herro, Jaime Jaquez Jr. and Kel’el Ware headed to the Bucks, while Norman Powell left in free agency.
As presently constructed, the Heat can use some veteran bench help. Beal can be an efficient contributor as a three-level scorer. He can also contribute with his ball-handling and playmaking.
On the other hand, the Celtics made a major call by swapping the 2024 Finals MVP with Paul George. Having an option like Beal off the bench can keep the team’s offense afloat. Boston can also use more players on team-friendly deals.
