“I’ll See You in the Cobb County Jail”: Jaylen Brown Finally Reveals the Backstory Behind His Viral Tweet During Emotional Homecoming

Jaylen Brown went back to his roots in Georgia as the Boston Celtics travel to Atlanta for their next game. He visited his alma mater, Wheeler High School in Marietta, Georgia, and even addressed the students, which even brought back an old post about one of his teachers on X from 2014.

In 2014, Brown wrote on X:

“My teacher said she will look me up in the Cobb county jail in 5 years .. Wow”

The 2024 NBA Finals MVP was asked by a media person about his old viral post on X, as he narrated the incident behind that post. He explained that it happened when he was in camp and wasn’t paying attention in class:

“She made a comment — she was like, ‘If Jaylen doesn’t do his work. I don’t care what camp he went to or whatever the case may be, he’s not gonna be successful if he doesn’t pay attention in class.’ I might have said something back, like, ‘Whether I pay attention to class or not, I’m gonna make it.’ She was like, ‘Well, let’s see. I’ll see you in the Cobb County Jail.’ And that was her response. And it was a substitute teacher, and it was kind of a back and forth.”

However, Brown admitted that teachers have a difficult job and they might not mean everything they say in the moment. He added:

“But I empathize with teachers, because the reality is like you have a class that’s probably got too many students in it, and their job is to not only teach the class, but also keep a group of like 30 students behaved.”

Even though Jaylen Brown had yet to join the NBA in 2014 and didn’t know his worth then, he might be happy with how things turned out. He has become the franchise player of the Celtics in the last few years, with Jayson Tatum by his side.

Even in the absence of Tatum, Brown has taken up the responsibility, averaging a career-high 29.4 points, and has received constant help from Derrick White and others. He was also in the spotlight recently due to his comments on NBA officiating and even received a fine for it.

Jaylen Brown gets fined $35000 for comments on refs

After the Celtics lost their game against the San Antonio Spurs on January 10, Jaylen Brown was visibly upset with the level of officiating, as the two teams had a difference of 16 free throws awarded to them.

After the game, Brown didn’t mince his words and said:

“I’ll accept the fine at this point. I thought it was some bullshit tonight. I think they’re a good defensive team, but they ain’t that damn good. I hope somebody can just pull up the clips, because it’s the same shit every time we play a good team. It’s like they refuse to make a call, then they call touch fouls on the other end. That’s just extremely frustrating, bro.”

After Brown’s statements, the league fined him with $35000 for publicly criticizing the officiating. He has previously complained about the referees in other games as well.
