“I’m Sick of This Sh*t”: Jaylen Brown Risks NBA Fine as Frustration With Referees Reaches Boiling Point

Officiating in the NBA has been a constant point of discussion among players and analysts, and the recent one to be impacted was Jaylen Brown. For context, in their last game against the San Antonio Spurs, the Boston Celtics shot 3-for-4 from the free-throw line, while the away team was awarded with 20 FTs. The difference was stark, and Brown wasn’t happy after the game.

When asked about the issue during the post-game presser, the Celtics guard stated that it was a constant problem whenever the team played “a good team.” While he expressed his disappointment in the media interaction, it seems Jaylen Brown was not done. In a short post on X, he continued to vent out his frustration:

“Fine me I’m sick of this sh*t”

Players being unhappy with referee calls is not something new in the NBA. Almost every player raises their hands in disappointment every time a foul is called on them, or they are not awarded a foul. However, the issue seldom goes outside the court to media interactions or social media. And Brown’s frustration is justified.

The team, which went 61-21 in the 2025 regular season, has already lost 14 this season. Jayson Tatum is out due to his right Achilles surgery and is not confirmed to return anytime soon. This has led Brown to do the major heavy-lifting for the team. He even let that frustration out in the media interaction after the game, risking a fine from the league.

“I’ll accept the fine at this point. I thought it was some bullshit tonight,” Jaylen Brown on “inconsistencies” in ref calls

The Celtics vs. the Spurs on January 11 was a fantastic finish. However, Victor Wembanyama did what he is known for in the final minutes and took the game away from the 2024 NBA champions, 100-95. That difference of 16 FTs between the two teams looked critical at the end, and Jaylen Brown addressed that in the post-game press conference.

Taking the risk of getting fined, Brown said:

“I’ll accept the fine at this point. I thought it was some bullshit tonight. I think they’re a good defensive team, but they ain’t that damn good. I hope somebody can just pull up the clips, because it’s the same shit every time we play a good team. It’s like they refuse to make a call, then they call touch fouls on the other end. That’s just extremely frustrating, bro…

“Just somebody please pull up the clips. Every time we play a good team the inconsistency is crazy. I’ll take the fucking fine. Curtis, all of them dudes was terrible tonight.”

Notably, the Spurs are ranked third in the defensive rating this season, and that was on full display in their last game. The bigs like Luke Kornet and Victor Wembanyama, who is averaging 2.9 blocks, are at the center of it. The 2026 NBA Cup champions look lethal and are ready for a title-contending season.
