“He’s Not Really a Point Guard”: Jaden Ivey Hits Out At Cade Cunningham’s Positioning After Pistons’ Judgement Day Remarks

Jaden Ivey has been in the limelight this season after he was suspended by the Chicago Bulls for his controversial statements. Now, the shooting guard once again caught the public eye when he made some hot claims about Cade Cunningham and his abilities to handle the ball. The Detroit Pistons are engaged in a close battle with the Orlando Magic in Round 1 of the NBA playoffs.

The Pistons are unexpectedly trailing 3-2 in the series, looking to even the record in Game 6. However, Cunningham looked in form in Game 5, in which he dropped 45 points in 44 minutes. Meanwhile, the former Piston did not hesitate to label Cunningham as “not a guard.” Ivey said:

“Cade Cunningham, primarily in his position, he’d be a 3. He’d be a small forward because he’s 6-foot-7, but he handles the ball. He’s a point guard, they call him a point guard, right? But he’s not really a point guard… He just can’t handle the ball.”

Ivey earlier called out the Pistons in a social media video and said that all the Pistons’ regular-season wins won’t matter on “Judgement Day.”

The 6-foot-6 guard’s ball-handling came under serious scrutiny after he averaged eight turnovers per game in the first three games. However, in the last game, Cunningham took care of the ball and committed just three turnovers. Moreover, he created history in the game to redeem himself in front of his home crowd.

Cade Cunningham fired on all cylinders in Game 5 at home after the Pistons had a dismal postseason run in Round 1. They have struggled against a play-in team, which has raised several questions among fans and analysts. However, in the last game, Cunningham matched up perfectly with Paolo Banchero and traded some crucial buckets in the fourth quarter. The Orlando guard also scored 45 points, with nine rebounds, and seven assists.

Cunningham stood tall in the end with a clutch jumper to seal the game and etch her name in the Pistons’ history. He became the highest-scoring Piston in a playoff game with 45 points, shooting 13-23 from the field and 5-8 from deep. If he leads the Pistons to another win in Game 6, he can become part of another franchise history by making a rare comeback.

Even though Jaden Ivey believed that the 2025-26 NBA All-Star was not a point guard, a win would be more than enough to answer the naysayers. Meanwhile, Ivey was seen enjoying time with his wife and family after he said his wife wasn’t talking to him due to his controversial exit from the Bulls.

Jaden Ivey was ejected from the team for his anti-LGBTQ comments on an Instagram Live. The statements quickly went viral and led to his suspension for actions “detrimental to the team.” However, he did not back down and even called out Steph Curry in his next video, garnering widespread criticism. After all the drama, he shared some emotional posts on social media, claiming that he was alone, as his wife wasn’t talking to him.

However, Caitlyn responded and said that she would be with him in times of need. The Bulls guard shared an image with his wife on Instagram, signalling they were still together. Recently, he again posted a video, enjoying quality time with his daughters, and wrote:

“Shiloh, Noah, and Isaiah enjoying pool time”

As Jaden Ivey enjoys time off the court, Cade Cunningham and Co. will now head to the Kia Center for a crucial Game 6, looking to even the series and give themselves a chance.
