The Minnesota Timberwolves have had a stellar series in Round 1 against the Denver Nuggets, as they lead the matchup, 3-2. However, losing both Anthony Edwards and Donte DiVincenzo in the same game (Game 4) has put them on the back foot. As they gear up for a crucial Game 6, in which the 2023 NBA champions will look to tie the series, the team has received damning updates about other players.
The Wolves survived Game 4 after Edwards was sidelined, thanks to Ayo Dosunmu dropping 43 points off the bench. In the next game, he started and contributed 18 points in 38 minutes. In the absence of Edwards and DiVencenzo, the team would need contributions from everyone if they want to overcome the Nuggets. Defense has been the difference maker in the series, and the Wolves have to fall back on the same strategy.
In the latest injury report, the Wolves have listed Dosunmu and Bones Hyland as questionable due to right calf soreness and left knee soreness, respectively. It would be a concerning update for the team, as they will be short of guards if even one of them doesn’t play in the next game.
Dosunmu’s calf injury has come back to haunt him after he sat out due to the same issue at the end of the regular season. The Wolves will be back at Target Center for Game 6, but the Nuggets will give their 100%, as they have nothing to lose from here. The type of injury situation the Wolves have been dealing with is the best-case scenario for Nikola Jokic and Co. to come out of the hole.
Nuggets look to even series against Timberwolves
After a few offensive slumps earlier in the Round 1 series, Nikola Jokic is back to his form. He scored a triple-double in Game 5, scoring 24 points, 12 rebounds, and 16 assists. Christian Braun stepped up as well with his defense, getting three steals. The Nuggets’ offensive surge, mixed with the Timberwolves injury concerns, might be on the way of creating history.
Game 6 is scheduled for April 30 and the Nuggets will try to cash the golden opportunity. Jamal Murray has proven his worth in clutch moments on the biggest stages and might come up big in the next game.
