Draymond Green has a grudge against his head coach, Steve Kerr, and he openly expressed that in his latest statement. The legacy of the Golden State Warriors, largely built around Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green, also includes a big contribution from former NBA player and Warriors HC Kerr. However, Green pointed out the one thing he couldn’t get out of his head.
Since the Warriors lost in the play-ins, there have been rumors of a change in the head coaching position in the franchise. Amid the uncertainty, the center has come out and expressed his past dissatisfaction with Kerr. In a post shared by NBACentral, Green said:
“You know, when I think of who I was offensively as a player and who I became, I think a part of that is due to him. I don’t hold that against him. I’m forever grateful that he still put me in a position to be successful and that I could become Draymond Green despite my offensive role on our team.”
Explaining his gripe with the head coach, the 4-time NBA champion added:
“It’s one of my gripes. But if you’re going to take one gripe and not be able to move past it for all the other things, then you’re shallow as a person. You know, when [Kevin Durant] came from 2016 on, I have not had a play in our playbook. Not a single play that we run for me in our playbook since 2016. You think that would hinder someone as an offensive player? Of course.”
Draymond Green has done a lot of work defensively for the franchise. He is a 2016-17 Defensive Player of the Year and has been in that conversation multiple times in his career. He was third in the 2024-25 season. Moreover, his playmaking and ability to set efficient screens in clutch moments have only surged his stature as an elite defender in the league.
Besides hounding shooters on the floor, Green also runs his YouTube show and gives his opinions on everything going on in the basketball world and more. He recently shared his feelings about Kerr, who had high praise for Green in his interview with The New Yorker.
“I’m forever grateful,” Draymond Green thanks Steve Kerr for calling him best defender
Draymond Green took to his YouTube channel and talked about Steve Kerr’s latest interview with The New Yorker, in which the head coach discussed his time with the Warriors and shared his thoughts on Green as a defender. Kerr called Green the best defender he has ever seen.
Given that the former NBA player has played with defensive stalwarts like Scottie Pippen, Tim Duncan, David Robinson, and others, the 36-year-old center was grateful. He said:
“I’m forever grateful for that because I loved the game of basketball, I loved the history of basketball, and anytime, for a kid from Saginaw, Michigan, for someone with the resume of Steve Kerr, one of the best winners in NBA history, who has won nine NBA championships, as a coach and player, combined, there’s not many people qualified to say as much as Steve can say baout the NBA. He’s just done it all in every level. So, I don’t take it any lightly.”
The relationship between the Splash brothers and one of the winningest personalities, as a coach and player, in the NBA has been great throughout. Given that bond, Green’s statements might not have a big impact on their relationship.
