Fred VanVleet Tells Media to ‘Slow the F*ck Down’ on Victor Wembanyama-led Spurs Hype

Victor Wembanyama has been an anomaly in the NBA, and several fans and analysts have talked about his efficiency and skill set. However, Fred VanVleet was not impressed by the Wemby hype train everyone has been on. He let his feelings be known about the young team’s chances of going deep into the postseason.

Talking on his show, Unguarded, on YouTube, VanVleet gave his flowers to the Spurs squad and admitted that they have looked good in the regular season. He then added:

“Have they won a playoff series? Everybody slow the f*ck down. It’s a marathon. Not a sprint… Yeah Wemby is a alien. Castle is a really good player, Harper looks like a good player. They’re have a good year but what’s the finish line though? It’s easy to say all this in the moment. Being 100, they beat our ass. But anybody in the media taking victory laps when we was just beating they a*s.”

The Spurs did not get a chance to feature in the playoffs earlier since the 7-foot-4 center joined the squad in 2023. This season, they are second in the Western Conference, set to grab a playoff spot.

VanVleet, on the other hand, has not been seen on the court since suffering a torn ACL last year. The Spurs lost their last game against the Denver Nuggets, ending their 5-game winning streak.

Victor Wembanyama essential for the Spurs’ title chances

Victor Wembanyama was questionable to play the last game and was given a rest before the game began due to ankle soreness. His absence led the team to blow a 5-game winning streak after giving up a 20-point lead in the fourth quarter to lose the game, 131-136.

Wemby remains questionable for the next game against the Charlotte Hornets as well. However, his absence has allowed other stars like D’Aaron Fox and Stephon Castle to take up the responsibility. The 2024 fourth overall draft pick scored an impressive triple-double with 30 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists.
