The San Antonio Spurs might face multiple questions after their NBA Finals loss, and fans believe Kyrie Irving might be the answer. The defeat might prompt management to look to change the roster. De’Aaron Fox’s late-game issues have expanded, especially in the finals. Several fans have suggested that Irving might be the only savior for the team’s chances of a title.
Irving missed the entire 2025-26 season due to a torn ACL, and he is still under the Dallas Mavericks banner on a three-year, $118 million contract. On the other hand, Fox is worth more than $50 million per year. However, he completely disappeared in the fourth quarter of Game 5, shooting 0-for-4.
One fan suggested Irving’s addition to the Spurs might be the final option for the franchise:
“Kyrie can save the Spurs I promise”
Another commented on the picture and the caption, saying that the 2016 NBA champion might have been battling with injuries if he were part of the roster:
“Kyrie unfortunately is too injury prone. He was who I was wishing for while watching Fox throw this series. Kyrie most likely would’ve been injured though.”
Another fan compared Irving and Fox’s salaries in the league:
“Just looked up Kyrie and Fox’s salary. The money does not work… Fox really making 5 $55 mil a year? Sheeeeeeeeeesh”
One more fan suggested that if Irving’s health allows, he can be a perfect addition and wrote:
“if he can stay healthy he’d be a perfect fit”
Kyrie Irving is one of the league’s most elite veteran guards with championship experience. He would be a good replacement if the two teams could work out a deal.
The Mavericks might not be ready to trade Kyrie Irving
Even though the Spurs might benefit from Kyrie Irving’s addition, the Mavericks might not be ready to move the guard. The team was unloading contracts speedily during the midseason trade period. However, they decided to stay put with Irving, which shows the front office’s interest in keeping the guard.
Fox averaged 11.2 and 12.8 points in the last two postseason series, which showed his big-moment woes. Given that he was not the primary ball handler in the season, he found it difficult to adjust. His trade prospects look real for now.
