Things have begun to heat up in the East after Donovan Mitchell and Co. could not stop the Toronto Raptors from advancing to Game 7. The Raptors put up a valiant effort in the end to win Game 6 after a very lucky game-winning three-pointer from RJ Barrett that touched the heel and went inside the basket. Following the loss, Mitchell’s teammate Evan Mobley’s mother seemed to hold the Cavs superstar responsible for their unexpected collapse.
In her latest social media activity, Evan’s mother Nicol reshared an X post that highlighted Donovan Mitchell’s shortcomings in the series against the Raptors. As per the post, Channing Frye stated on The Road Trippin Show:
“I don’t think how Donovan Mitchell plays basketball is a recipe for success. Him taking a backseat in this series is absolutely necessary… When has he shown you he can win past the 2nd round?”
Interestingly, a fan shared that the same post had a reshare from Evan Mobley’s mother Nicol. Mitchell hasn’t looked as comfortable as he did in the regular season. He has averaged 23.3 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 3.3 assists compared to 27.9 points in the regular season.
Evan Mobley shines in Cleveland’s Game 6 OT loss
Evan Mobley registered a triple-double in the last game, even though that came in a loss for the Cavaliers, scoring 26 points and 14 rebounds in 44 minutes. The forward, who led the scoring, has been a crucial piece of the offense, even though he has had low-scoring nights this season.
A tough bucket at the end of the regulation from Mobley sent the game into overtime. The Raptors tried to win the game with the final shot, but couldn’t drain the bucket. However, the Cavs could add just six points to the bonus, and Mobley went without scoring in that period.
“Just got to protect home court,” Donovan Mitchell quickly moves on from Game 6 defeat
While several fans and analysts believed that Donovan Mitchell did not do enough in Game 6 to close Round 1 against the Raptors, the superstar was unfazed by the tough loss. He focused on the next game back home and emphasized the same point throughout the press session.
Mitchell said:
“But there’s nothing to be deflated about. Just got to protect home court. Now, if this was Game 7 and that happened, then, [you feel] a little different. But we had an opportunity. Didn’t happen. We’ve got to protect home court. Doesn’t matter if we lost by 30. Two. Protect home court. That’s all you can do.”
The Raptors have shown serious resistance against the Cavaliers in Round 1. Whatever the result might be in Game 7, both teams have played top-notch playoff basketball. No doubt, Mitchell will have to come up big in the final game to get the team over the hurdle and feature in Round 2.
