Boston Celtics Injury Report: Jaylen Brown and 3 Key Players in Danger of Missing Knicks Clash (Apr. 9)

Jaylen Brown and the Boston Celtics will be at Madison Square Garden for their next matchup against the New York Knicks on April 9. The second seed of the Eastern Conference has already clinched a playoff berth this season and is set to play the last road game of the Celtics’ regular season. However, the team might be short-handed in their next bout.

In the latest official injury report, the Celtics have labeled their superstar guard, Jaylen Brown, as ‘questionable’ due to left Achilles tendinitis. He played the last game against the Charlotte Hornets and scored 35 points and nine rebounds in 43 minutes. Meanwhile, two other crucial pieces of the team’s offense, Derrick White and San Huaser, are also ‘questionable’ for the next game.

While White suffers a right knee contusion, Hauser seems to be facing lower back spasms. Moreover, another starter, Neemias Queta, is also labeled ‘questionable’ due to a right toe sprain. That means Jayson Tatum is the only starter who is clear to play the next game. It will be Joe Mazzulla’s game-time call to decide how many starters can miss the game.

Tatum scored 23 points, five rebounds, and four assists in the Celtics’ win against the Hornets. He returned to the roster in March for the first time this season. His production has increased in recent games, as he seems to be getting back in shape after an extended hiatus due to right Achilles surgery. If Brown takes to the court, it will be a heated battle between the two sides, as the Celtics guard has some history with the team.

Jaylen Brown has Jayson Tatum’s back on his return to MSG for the first time after injury

It was the 2025 Eastern Conference Semifinals Game 4 between the Boston Celtics and New York Knicks, and the horrors are still afresh in Jayson Tatum’s memory. He scored his fifth career 40-point game in the NBA playoffs but rolled his ankle in an attempt to get a loose ball in the fourth quarter. Sadly, he went back to the locker room on the shoulders.

When Jaylen Brown was asked about Tatum’s return to MSG after that incident, he simply said that the team had his back. He added:

“Mentally it could possibly be something but that’s what your teammates are there for. We got his back.”

Even Tatum did not seem ready to go back to the place that cost him almost 11 months of basketball and possibly a title chance. The Celts lost to the Knicks (4-2) in the 2025 conference semifinals. Talking to the media, he said:

“I thought about it. I’m not like thrilled to go back and play there. Last time I played there, obviously, it was a traumatic experience for me. Obviously, I knew, at some point, I would have to get over that hurdle and play there again.”

However, this time, Brown and Tatum will look to overcome that hurdle and plan to get their team a second championship. But first, the Celtics forward will have to pass through the MSG test in the next game.
