It looks like the house cleaning at Ann Arbor is still underway, with the Michigan Wolverines deciding this week to part ways with football general manager Sean Magee. The news was shared by On3’s Pete Nakos. He was seen as a key figure in building the 2023 national championship roster and in getting to recruit the top player of the class of 2025, quarterback Bryce Underwood.
Some fans pointed out that this isn’t particularly good news for a Michigan team rocked by controversy in recent times.
“This program just keeps crumbling. Bad news weekly 😬,” claimed one fan
“Must not have cheated enough,” joked another fan, referencing the Jim Harbaugh era at Michigan
“I wonder what he did too,” said someone else, referencing the Sherrone Moore debacle of a few months ago
Others simply focused on the football side of the move.
“Wow big move. Michigan has some superstars lined up,” said another person
Others were seemingly confused between East Lansing and Ann Arbor, with the Michigan Wolverines being in the latter city.
“What in the world is going on in east lansing,” wrote one confused fan
Others simply thought this was the beginning of the end for Michigan.
“Country Morgan ain’t comeback either it’s over for Michigan. It was over after 27-9 but this nail in da coffins 😂🔥🔥💯,” claimed one individual
While others thought it was a logical step in cleaning house after such a turbulent period.
“I do t know if he was decent, bad, or good at his job, and dont much care. The further we can get away from the previous regime, the better,” explained someone else
Magee had an eclectic background. While he was on Jim Harbaugh’s coaching staff between 2017 and 2021, he was also a Navy Surface Warfare Officer and former chief of staff for the Chicago Bears. In his youth, he was an offensive lineman for the Navy Midshipmen.
Michigan to Make More Staff Changes This Offseason
The Kyle Whittingham era is in full force at Ann Arbor, and understandably, this is going to mean significant staff changes as the new head coach assembles his preferred team. Other names that look to be on the chopping block following Sean Magee’s departure are Albert Karschnia, director of player personnel, and Kayli Johnson, director of on-campus recruiting.
Sam Popper, the school’s recruitment director, also seems to be weighing his options and could leave Michigan.
