“Now My Own Son is Trolling Me”: Cody Campbell Reacts to Son Carson’s Sooners Jibe

Former NFL star Cody Campbell played for Texas Tech during his collegiate career. After retirement, he became a member of the Texas Tech University System Board of Regents.

His son, Carson Campbell, is a 2029 offensive lineman recruit. Recently, the two were spotted at Oklahoma coach Brent Venables’ camp. Carson responded to a tweet talking about his dad’s presence at the camp amid the widespread backlash following the Brendan Sorsby ruling.

    “Boomer Sooner?” Carson wrote.

Cody Campbell then shared a post reacting to his son’s jibe.

“Now my own son is trolling me?? What a couple days it’s been!!” Campbell wrote.

The Texas Tech Red Raiders have been facing massive backlash after the whole Brendan Sorsby drama. He transferred to play for the program in January after spending the last two seasons with Cincinnati. However, in April, the quarterback checked into rehab for a gambling addiction.

In May, Sorsby confessed to betting thousands of dollars over four years anonymously. He was denied reinstatement for eligibility for the upcoming season. The NCAA also denied Texas Tech’s appeal for the same on Friday.

However, on Monday, a Texas judge granted a temporary injunction against the NCAA. This allows Brendan Sorsby to participate in the 2026 season. This decision resulted in massive unrest in the college football world, with many ADs and experts calling out the judge and criticizing the ruling.

Paul Finebaum rips Cody Campbell amid Brendan Sorsby controversy

Cody Campbell is arguably one of the biggest boosters for Texas Tech. He has also been vocal on social media in supporting Brendan Sorsby despite all the backlash.

“Well, college sports is in trouble right now,” Finebaum said on Tuesday’s episode of ESPN’s ‘Get Up.’ “An AD said yesterday, Greeny, that this ruling cost the sport its soul, not true. The sport lost its soul a long time ago. … College sports is a house of cards, and it is crashing, and one of the things that could damage what we all enjoy on Saturday is the integrity of the game.

“The problem with Texas Tech is that their biggest benefactor is Cody Campbell. He’s a billionaire, and he’s the one speaking and screaming the loudest. He sat right behind Ted Cruz the other day at the Senate hearing, and he is trying to push this bill, so that’s another factor that’s probably going to be damaged by this.”

The NCAA also released a statement, expressing its disappointment with the decision in Brendan Sorsby’s case. They also expressed concerns about the consequences of this ruling on the future of the sport.
