After losing out on the 2025 CFB national championship to the Indiana Hoosiers earlier this year, the Miami Hurricanes will be looking to go one step forward in the 2026-27 CFB campaign.
However, a lot will depend on the new hires, as a total of nine Miami players were picked in the 2026 NFL Draft. With core mainstays like Francis Mauigoa, Akheem Mesidor, and Carson Beck all getting picked by franchises earlier last month, head coach Mario Cristobal is tasked with bolstering a strong core ahead of the new CFB season.
However, the recruiting window has so far been a blessing for the Miami-based program, as a lot of top recruits have officially committed to playing for the Canes. Let’s take a look at three such recruits who could prove to be vital in Miami’s title hunt this coming season.
Top 3 Commits Who Could Shape the 2026-27 Class For Miami
1. OT Jackson Cantwell
Miami Hurricanes’ top recruit for the 2026-27 cycle OT Jackson Cantwell is already making waves as the 6’8″ bruiser currently occupies the third spot on SC Next’s top 300 list of recruits, with a five-star rating and an overall grade of 93.
A Missouri native, the 2025 Gatorade National Player of the Year helped Nixa High School go 13-1 in Missouri’s 6A championship whilst also garnering a total of 173 blocks over the span of just 13 games.
This athleticism could perhaps be attributed to his familial connection, as Cantwell comes from a family of Olympic throwers. His father Christian Cantwell won a silver medal for shot put in the 2008 Beijing Olympics, while his mother Teri Steer competed in the 2000 Sydney Olympics.
2. TE Gavin Mueller
Standing at 6’4 and 250 pounds, TE Gavin Mueller is one of the most exciting prospects housed by Miami this season. During the 2025 high school football season, Mueller caught a total of 32 passes for 515 yards while also garnering 10 touchdowns.
His on-field exploits inducted Mueller as a Beacon News All-Area selectee as a senior. One of Gavin’s USPs on this side could be attributed to his varied sporting background, as the TE is an Illinois 2A qualifier in shot put while also putting up impressive discus numbers.
Gavin’s commitment to the Hurricanes was not a straight path, as he initially was headed to play under head coach Deion Sanders for the Colorado-based program, only to commit to the Hurricanes in 2026.
3. EDGE Asharri Charles
The Miami Hurricanes’ defense could very well be spearheaded by the addition of EDGE Asharri Charles, who officially signed for the Miami-based program in January this year after pledging his commitment back in 2025.
A 247Sports four-star prospect with an overall rating of 95, Charles’ breakout sophomore season for Venice High School saw him accumulate 98 tackles and 11 sacks. The Florida native concluded his junior high school year better than his sophomore record as he registered 107 tackles and 13.5 sacks, subsequently helping his side clinch the Florida 7A title.
The Sarasota Herald-Tribune Defensive Player of the Year could very well be the it factor Mario Cristobal and his side will be looking for come next season.
