CJ Carr is set for an important year with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish football team as he develops into a senior figure at the college with the NFL not too far away. The quarterback has been solid if not spectacular since committing in 2023, and will have an even bigger role as the new college football season rolls around.
Since taking over the QB responsibilities ahead of Kenny Minchey, much has been made about his qualities as a QB, and it’s clear that a lot of his level headedness comes from a family that has backed him all the way, and as Carr puts it, his mom runs the show behind the scenes.
In an interview with the Triple Option Show, Carr spoke about just that, mentioning an incident about how his mom was forbidden from speaking to Marcus Freeman as he knew she would have something to say about the program at Notre Dame.
“She was allowed to come on all the visits. Once we started to get really serious about Notre Dame, then it was like, ‘alright you can’t meet Free (Marcus Freeman) until we – you know, I know what I’m getting myself into.’
“Because I think in all households the mom is the boss, at least that’s my household. Coach Free just does such a great job of capturing Notre Dame in the way he recruits and I just knew my mom, the second she heard him talk about Notre Dame and how much he cared about it and the passion he had, it was over. There was no more other schools.”
CJ Carr Set for Important Season at Fighting Irish
It’s a make or break year for CJ Carr as the quarterback is expected to be the backbone of the team under Marcus Freeman as they aim to break the shackles and push for a national championship run in the 2026 season.
With top players like Jeremiyah Love now in the NFL, all eyes will be on Carr to keep the Notre Dame ship sailing.
