Florida Gators coach Todd Golden is being linked to an NBA franchise, even with him still being under contract with his current team, as the said franchise’s coach may be leaving.
On Monday, it was reported that Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr is uncertain about his future with his team after their premature exit in this year’s NBA Play-In Tournament, as they were unable to make the Playoffs.
Along with these reports, @Fullcourtpass on X/Twitter also reported that as per basketball analyst Kevin O’Connor, the Bay Area-based franchise will be targeting Golden if Kerr decides to leave. This is because Golden is said to have deep ties with the Lacob family, who own the Golden State franchise. Before serving as the head coach for the Florida-based program, Golden once coached the San Francisco Dons for three years.
For now, Golden remains under contract with the Gators as he is about to enter the second year of his six-year deal in the 2026-27 season. Golden signed the extension after he led Florida to win the 2025 national championship over the Houston Cougars, 65-63. This year, he led the Gators to consecutive No. 1 overall seeding in the 2026 March Madness, but had their NCAA title defense thwarted in the second round.
On the other hand, Kerr and the Warriors were recently eliminated from getting into the 2026 NBA Playoffs after they lost to the Phoenix Suns in their second Play-In Tournament game.
Analyst Kevin O’Connor Is Hesitant That Todd Golden Even Wants To Leave The Florida Gators
In an article by Thomas Goldkamp, published on On3, a quote was taken from a recent episode of sports analyst Kevin O’Connor’s show, where he reported on the Golden State Warriors’ interest in Todd Golden.
However, O’Connor gave his two cents on the matter and said he is skeptical whether Golden even wants to leave the Florida Gators, given the winning culture he has instilled in the team.
“The thing is would Golden even want to leave the Gators? He has a great situation there in Florida. They’re one year removed from a national title. No guarantee he’d want to go into an uncertain situation with the Golden State Warriors,” O’Connor was quoted as saying.
