The Kansas Jayhawks have been playing some of their best basketball this season. They are fourth in the Big 12 with a 15-5 record. They have a Big 12 record of 5-2. Kansas has a four-game winning streak at the moment. One of the major reasons for Kansas’ success this season has been its freshman Darryn Peterson, who is set to face off against AJ Dybantsa and BYU next for the ultimate showdown.
Peterson and Dybantsa are two of the finest players in the 2026 freshman class, and they will play each other on Saturday, January 31. BYU is the 13th-ranked team, while Kansas is 14th. Peterson is averaging 21.6 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 1.9 assists in 10 games played this season.
As for Dybantsa, the BYU star is doing slightly better than Peterson stats-wise. Dybantsa is averaging 23.6 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 3.6 assists in 20 games in his freshman season. BYU is two spots behind Kansas in the Big 12 Conference with a similar record. They are also 5-2 in conference and 17-3 overall. BYU lost its last game and would be looking to get back to winning ways, and what better way to get the winning touch back than to beat Kansas? However, Kansas fans will make sure it will not be easy for AJ Dybantsa and BYU.
Kansas fans are already setting up camp in the arena in Allen Fieldhouse. Even though the game is on Saturday, the fans have already started showing their excitement. It seems that the Kansas crowd is preparing a hostile environment for BYU.
