Amid roster uncertainty and the Trojans still trying to climb back into national relevance, USC has landed one of the biggest recruiting wins of the cycle by securing five-star forward Christian Collins.
The USC Trojans men’s basketball may not have all the answers yet on their roster build, but Eric Musselman is making sure the future isn’t left to chance by recruiting a top-five recruit.
Christian Collins Gives USC a Major Boost
Collins, a 6-foot-9 forward out of St. John Bosco, is one of the top-ranked players in the 2026 class. A McDonald’s All-American and top-five national recruit, he chose USC over major programs like Kentucky and Louisville, instantly elevating the Trojans’ recruiting profile.
He’s long, athletic, and versatile enough to guard multiple positions while also contributing offensively as a scorer, rebounder, and playmaker. His senior year numbers were over 26 points and nearly 9.6 rebounds per game, highlighting just how impactful he can be from Day 1.
More importantly, he can fill multiple roles on the roster. He can play in transition, stretch the floor, and defend across lineups, giving USC flexibility in building rotations around him.
He also joins an already intriguing class that includes twin seven-footers Adonis Ratliff and Darius Ratliff, both McDonald’s All-Americans. Together, that trio gives USC one of the most unique and physically imposing incoming groups in the country.
USC Roster Issues Heading Into Upcoming Season
While Collins’ commitment is a major win, it doesn’t completely solve USC’s roster issues heading into 2026.
The Trojans are coming off multiple disappointing seasons, including a stretch without an NCAA Tournament appearance. Musselman has been aggressive in reshaping the roster, but turnover remains a concern, with players leaving via the transfer portal and others still evaluating their futures.
That makes Collins’ arrival even more significant. He is a potential centerpiece.
USC is essentially betting on upside. With elite incoming talent but limited proven production at the college level, the Trojans’ 2026 campaign could swing in either direction. If the pieces click, this roster has the athleticism and depth to surprise. If not, questions around development and fit will only grow louder.
For now, landing Christian Collins doesn’t guarantee wins next season. But it does signal something important: USC is still capable of attracting top-tier talent, even amid uncertainty.
