Tyran Stokes has kept the college basketball world guessing for months regarding his recruitment, and his latest comments may have just added a new twist. With decision time approaching, the five-star prospect confirmed a visit to the Kentucky Wildcats. More importantly, he made it clear he wants to hear what the program has to offer before making his final call.
“I think I will be going to Kentucky sometime this next coming week… be on the lookout for that,” Stokes Told Krysten Peek at the Nike Hoop Summit. “It’s a different coaching staff since the last time I was on campus, so just being able to go out there and talk to them and see what their plan is for me.”
For a while now, Kansas has been seen as the frontrunner in Stokes’ recruitment. Bill Self and his staff have reportedly kept the five-star forward involved in their plans, even discussing potential roster builds around him and fellow top recruit Tay Kinney.
“Just being able to talk to them… see what players they’re getting, it helps me prepare,” Stokes said.
With a revamped staff under Mark Pope, the Wildcats are making a late push. The upcoming visit gives them a chance to present a fresh vision — something Stokes clearly values as he evaluates his next step.
What Makes Tyran Stokes the No. 1 Prospect?
At 6-foot-7 with a powerful frame and elite athleticism, Stokes is widely considered the most complete player in the 2026 class. He can handle the ball like a guard, attack downhill in transition, and create offense in ways most forwards can’t. His ability to grab a rebound and immediately push the break has consistently stood out.
That skillset was on full display during the McDonald’s All-American Game. After a quiet start, Stokes took over in the fourth quarter, finishing with a double-double and showcasing his ability to impact the game in multiple ways. Performances like that have only added to the anticipation surrounding his decision.
While Stokes hasn’t locked in an exact commitment date, the timeline is becoming clearer. With the late signing period beginning soon, he indicated he’s looking to wrap things up soon. That puts added importance on his upcoming visit to Kentucky.
