Kentucky Basketball Transfer Portal: Mark Pope’s Former Standout Sends Message After Career Move

Collin Chandler has officially entered the NCAA transfer portal. The sophomore guard shared an emotional message thanking the program, coaches, and fans for their support over the past two years.

“I am so grateful to Coach Mark Pope, the assistant coaches and staff, my teammates, and the University of Kentucky and BBN for the last 2 years,” Chandler said.

“You helped me grow so much, not just as a player, but as a man. You will always be family to me,” he added. “I am returning home, and excited for the work and challenges ahead.”

The statement quickly caught attention, for one key line: “I am returning home.”

That line has sparked speculation about his next destination, with the BYU Cougars men’s basketball team emerging as a strong favorite.

Will Collin Chandler Return to BYU?

The Utah native has deep ties to BYU, as he originally committed to the program before following Mark Pope to Kentucky. Now, with Chandler entering the portal, a return “home” appears to be on the table.

On the court, he showed significant improvement in his sophomore season.

After averaging just 2.7 points as a freshman, he took a major leap this past season, posting 9.7 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game. He also became a regular starter, appearing in 31 games while shooting 41% from three.

This has made him one of the more intriguing names in the transfer portal.

Full List of Kentucky Players Entering the Transfer Portal

Following a 22-14 season that ended in a second-round NCAA Tournament exit, Kentucky has seen multiple players either enter or prepare to enter the transfer portal.

Alongside Chandler, Denzel Aberdeen has officially entered the portal, while several others are expected to follow, including Mouhamed Dioubate, Jaland Lowe, Jasper Johnson, Brandon Garrison, and Andrija Jelavic.

The roster turnover comes at a time when expectations remain high in Kentucky, and the program looks to rebuild for the upcoming season.
