After No. 1 prospect Tyran Stokes visited Lexington and left still uncommitted, many believed that Kentucky’s chances of landing him had gone. However, after the Wildcats landed a true point guard, Zoom Diallo, Stokes gave fans something to hope for with his reaction.
Last season, Mark Pope only had one true point guard in his lineup, and that player has since left for the transfer portal. Now, he has secured the commitment of Washington point guard Diallo via the transfer portal, and Stokes was excited by the Wildcats acquisition.
“My Brudda,” wrote Tyran Stokes.
Diallo was a starter for most of Washington’s 33 games last season, averaging 15 points and 4.5 assists per game. While he is a good passer and floor general, he can also light up the scoreboard, as evidenced by his career-high 26 points against USC last season. His addition is seen as a massive boost for Mark Pope, who sorely needs a point guard right now.
This acquisition could be huge for Kentucky, especially as they are in a tight race against Kansas to land Tyran Stokes. Many believe Kansas is in the lead, but with his approval of the Diallo commitment, things might change for the Kentucky Wildcats.
Interestingly, Diallo and Stokes were teammates at Prolific Prep in California for one season.
Tyran Stokes Might Still Wait For Rosters To Fill To Make Decision
Tyran Stokes not making a decision after his Kentucky visit might not spell the end for the Wildcats. Many believe that the No. 1 prospect in the country is still planning things out.
Specifically, Stokes may be planning to wait and see how Kentucky or Kansas fill out their rosters out as the transfer portal and high school recruiting period nears its end. Kentucky has been lagging behind in recruiting, especially in the transfer portal. However, Zoom Diallo’s acquisition is a huge boost.
