Dan Hurley and the UConn Huskies are deep in work, already preparing for the 2026-27 season. In the most recent tweet by the school’s basketball program, the players, Hurley, and the coaching staff can be seen hard at work already this June.
Hurley reposted the short video on his X account and added the following one-word reaction:
“Devotion,” wrote Hurley on X this Thursday
The publication itself had the following caption:
“This is ONLY June,”
Hurley and the Huskies had a disappointing regular season last year, losing the Big East regular season and tournament titles to St. John’s Red Storm. However, they made up for it through an impressive NCAA Tournament run that took them to the national championship game, which they lost to the Michigan Wolverines.
UConn ended 2025-26 with a 34-6 overall record, with a 17-3 Big East mark. They landed second in the standings of their conference, but due to their impressive performance in the postseason, they finished as the No. 2 overall school in the nation, according to the AP Poll.
College Basketball at the White House? Definitely yes, says Dan Hurley
Recently, the White House played host to the UFC, as the government building served as the venue for UFC Freedom 250, an event to celebrate the 250th Anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, and coincidentally, President Trump’s 80th birthday on June 14th.
With this, the idea that the South Lawn of the White House could host other sporting events has become more palatable for the public.
Having been in Washington, D.C. for the event, Dan Hurley was approached by TMZ, which asked him about the possibility of a college basketball game in the White House. The coach seemed open to the idea:
“That would be good,” Hurley said. “I think UConn should definitely be in it, UConn-Duke. … Yeah, it’d be pretty cool. I’m definitely down.”
If it’s ever going to happen, it would have to be over the next two years during President Trump’s term. On Monday, as he departed on Air Force One for the G7 Summit in France, the President expressed his happiness with the UFC event that had some 4300 attendees last week at the White House.
Donald Trump has demonstrated a repeated openness to holding unusual events in the capital during his birthday, as last year the US Army marched on an unprecedented parade on Constitution Avenue to celebrate the institution’s 200th anniversary, which also coincided with the president’s 79th birthday.
