The Sweet 16 is here, which signals a rapidly depleting source of entertainment for fans who can’t get enough college basketball. However, as the number of alive teams dwindles, the number of transferring players and awareness of who is on the way out is growing.
Teams will be sparked into success and doomed into struggle by the shifting tide in the transfer portal as the offseason approaches. Here’s a look at some of the biggest names set to be on the move in the near future.
Biggest Names Heading For Transfer Portal Ahead of Sweet 16
#5 – Anton Bonke, C
Anton Bonke is the early choice for the biggest center on the move. Bonke earned 10.6 points per game, almost ten times what he averaged in 2024-25. He is most likely not going to have the same jump this time around, but even a 50% improvement would likely seal the deal to make him an NBA-caliber player. He just needs to land in the right situation.
#4 – Mikey Lewis, CG
Mikey Lewis started warm and heated up in his first two years of his career at Saint Mary’s. As a freshman, he earned 8.2 points per game, and in 2025, he jumped to 13.9 points per game. Assuming Lewis lands in the correct spot, he could jump in range of being a top player in the NCAA in 2026. Of course, that’s the magic move many players have hoped to pull off but failed to.
#3 – KJ Lewis, SF
KJ Lewis has made himself predictable, which is a good thing in a league that sees more changes and fluctuations than a Bitcoin stock. In the last two years in two different programs, he has earned at least double-digit points per contest. As such, expect the same from wherever he goes.
#2 – Stefan Vaaks, SG
According to a “release” via reporter Rob Reinhart in a Mar. 17 report on X, Stefan Vaaks is hitting the highway to join another program. Vaaks has plenty of potential after earning 15.8 points per game for Providence. The shooter led the Big East in three-point percentage with 22 games of action. It’s clear that there’s something untapped with Vaaks, and his addition could change a team’s prospects overnight.
#1 – Colby Garland, PG
Colby Garland is the embodiment of what Stefan Vaaks hopes he can do. Garland has improved in all three years of his college career, despite playing for three different programs. The star, who is entering the transfer portal per 247 Sports, earned an impressive 20.3 points with San Jose State in the 2025-26 season and could improve upon that once again with his fourth team.
Of course, don’t expect him to stick around long, but the fire that burns the shortest also often burns the brightest in a win-now league.
