Nate Ament had a mixed season, leaving scouts undecided about his potential in the 2026 NBA draft. The Tennessee Volunteers guard averaged 17.5 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game in 35 appearances. He shot 40.5 percent from the field, including 33.1 percent from the three-point field goal percentage.
However, numbers alone don’t tell the full story.
He suffered knee and ankle injuries in February, affecting his production during March Madness. Still, when it comes to the projections, it has been a mixed bag so far.
ESPN and NBA Draft Mock Board Have Nate Ament At No. 8
ESPN’s Jeremy Woo and NBADRAFT.net both have Nate Ament getting picked at No. 8 in the 2026 NBA draft. The Dallas Mavericks hold that pick. On the ESPN mock draft board, Ament was previously ranked No. 7.
This is what Woo had to say about Ament’s scouting profile:
“It’s likely Ament won’t be ready to contribute to a winning team as a rookie, but players in his mold are hard to find and tend to be valuable in an NBA driven by perimeter size and skill. Scouts are split on the likelihood of him reaching his ceiling, as he’s not an explosive athlete and has had some challenging moments this season. His best flashes in what was a suboptimal team context at Tennessee have kept him in the lottery mix.”
Ament’s 6-foot-10 frame with perimeter ability is valuable in today’s NBA. He can handle the ball, shoot, and defend multiple positions.
USA Today NBA Draft Mock Board has Nate Ament at No. 15
Nate Ament is not getting any favors on the USA Today Network’s mock draft board by Bryan Kalbrosky. He has him at No. 15 overall, with the Chicago Bulls potentially drafting him, assuming “the Portland Trail Blazers advance in the play-in tournament.”
This is what Kalbrosky shared about Ament in his scouting profile:
“The freshman averaged 21.6 points per game, while shooting 38.9 percent on 3-pointers, during a 13-game stretch before an injury against Alabama on Feb. 28. The All-SEC forward then had 27 points (4-of-6 on 3-pointers) with eight rebounds, four assists, three blocks and a steal against Auburn on March 12. He was not as efficient during March Madness, but it will only take one team to fall in love with Ament, and that team is likely picking near the lottery.”
There are some drawbacks associated with Ament, and the biggest is his inconsistency, which puts question in the minds of the NBA teams whether he deserves to be a lottery pick.
