Syracuse Basketball Transfer Portal Rumors: 3 Key Players Considering Exit After 2026 Season

The Syracuse Orange had another disappointing run this season. They lost more games than they won, going 6-12 in the Atlantic Coast Conference and 15-17 overall.

This has been the story of their last few seasons. The Orange also lost its first ACC Tournament game to the SMU Mustangs and will now need to rebuild.

Before that happens, the Orange is bound to lose some players to the transfer portal, which will be open from April 7 to April 11. Several players are rumored to leave Syracuse, but let’s take a look at the three who are most likely to.

    Syracuse Basketball Transfer Portal Rumors

    #1 Naithan George

Naithan George joined the program in 2025 after two years with the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. In his first season with the Syracuse Orange, he averaged 10.9 points, 3 rebounds, 5.4 assists, and 1.5 steals per game.

George shot over 40% from the field in 32 games, averaging over 32 minutes per game. Overall, he did what the team needed from him. However, the crushing losses and finishing the season on a six-game losing streak might make him reconsider his decision.

    #2 Donnie Freeman

Donnie Freeman joined the program in 2024 with a lot of hype surrounding his name. A five-star prospect, Freeman was one of the best power forwards in his class. He had offers from Alabama, Texas, Iowa, and Georgia Tech.

Freeman was the highest-rated Syracuse commit since Carmelo Anthony in 2002. On the court, he backed up the hype with his performances. In his first season, he played just 14 games, averaging 13.4 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 1.4 assists.

He put up better numbers this year. Freeman averaged 16.5 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 1.3 assists in 23 outings. He shot over 47% from the field, including 30% from the three-point line.

But these numbers hold no value if the team doesn’t win anything, and Freeman might look for another program, one where he can win something.

    #3 Kiyan Anthony

The son of NBA legend Carmelo Anthony followed in his father’s footsteps and joined his alma mater. Anthony played limited minutes this year, averaging 18.7 minutes per game in 29 outings.

He averaged 8.0 points and 1.4 rebounds per game. While there is a strong possibility he will leave the program when the portal opens, Anthony might reconsider because Syracuse has appointed a new coach.

Gerry McNamara, a Syracuse alum, has taken over the head coaching duties. McNamara was Melo’s teammate during the Orange’s 2003 NCAA championship run. It’ll be interesting to see if his hiring influences Anthony’s decision.
