Todd Golden is being linked with coaching in the NBA. Rumors are swirling about Steve Kerr’s exit from the Warriors after Stephen Curry and company were eliminated in the play-in tournament. Golden became the youngest coach to win an NCAA title, and it was all but natural that he attracted interest from the league.
Just one year after winning the national championship with Florida in the 2024-25 season, Golden reportedly has a real chance to have one of the most reputed coaching jobs in basketball. Becoming the head coach of Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors, there are no bigger jobs, only equals.
Obviously, with the stature of the job comes the pressure to succeed from the get-go. There have been enough speculations, and now Todd Golden himself has put an end to all the rumors.
A reporter popped the question, “And you are back [to Florida] for sure?”
Todd Golden answered:
“That’s an interesting question, Mark. I’m definitely planning on coaching the Gators.”
Fans react to Florida HC Todd Golden rejecting the Warriors
Since his appointment in 2022, Golden has an impressive record of 103-41 (0.715). After winning the NCAA title and SEC tournament in 2025, this season was a bit of a letdown for the Gators. They had a 27-8 overall and 16-2 conference record. The SEC record earned them the regular-season championship. However, they lost 73-72 in the second round of the NCAA tournament against Iowa.
Even though Golden made it clear that he will be returning to coach the Florida Gators, fans online speculated that he might still take the Warriors job.
“Plans change,” one fan said.
“Whew.. those nonverbal cues though,” another fan noticed.
“No eye contact. Not a confident answer. He’s gone,” one fan claimed.
“Big difference between, “I plan” and “I will be.” The door has been left open and his body language says, “I’m gone!”” another fan speculated.
“Until the job is filled the rumors will fly! He is going to the NBA before he is 45. I feel like each year he will be getting NBA offers and interest,” one fan stated.
““Planning on” until I get a BAG from the Warriors,” another commented.
